Who’s
to Say?
Gender roles what girls
should act like, what girls should wear or what a guy’s job should be or what
he should do at this job. We have all these specific labeling with these gender
roles. While looking closer into gender
roles the question pops up into my mind, who started this labeling on how a
specific male or female should look and act or what should the male or females
specific job be?
When I think of these certain stereotypes I think
a guy should be working in the factory doing hard physical labor while girls
are at desk doing paper work and typing away at the computer. I think this is
changing in the work force today. Also the way someone should dress or act
being a male or female.
For example in the band
videos we watched about three different bands. In the first band we had a
female that was acting “boyish” wearing baggy clothes and her hair was in her
face all the time while playing the drums and singing. In the second band video
we watched the girl was wearing a pretty shirt and a skirt to push her gender
the way she dresses. Making it clear that she is a girl and proud of it. In the
third video I would have described the singer as scary and freaking unsure what
she was trying to get across to the viewers. While her make-up was thick and
her hair was a mess, she still was wearing a dress and promoting how she is a
girl.
I
am glad people are feeling more comfortable and feel they can dress what ever
way they feel when being themselves. I don’t think that the certain gender
roles are pushed as much. Meaning males and females are wearing what they want
and acting whatever way they want. People may judge their action, but deep down
we are in a different centry and we are all equal and can do what we want.
